Safe Baby Imaging

What is a Maternity Scan?

A maternity scan (also called a pregnancy ultrasound) is a safe and painless imaging test that uses sound waves to create pictures of your baby inside the womb. It helps monitor your baby’s growth and development throughout your pregnancy.

When Should You Get a Maternity Scan?

Maternity scans are done at different stages of pregnancy to check your baby’s health:

  • Early scan (6–8 weeks) – Confirms pregnancy and checks for heartbeat
  • Dating scan (8–12 weeks) – Finds out how far along you are
  • Detailed scan (18–22 weeks) – Checks your baby’s organs, growth, and overall health
  • Late scan (third trimester) – Reviews baby’s position and well-being before delivery

Your doctor may also suggest additional scans if necessary for you or your baby’s health.

Why is a Maternity Scan Important?

Confirms your pregnancy and due date
Checks your baby’s growth, movement, and position
Detects early signs of concern or complications

Gives reassurance and peace of mind to parents
